Rancho Santa Fe is an affluent neighborhood in San Diego County. It is 20 miles north of the downtown area of San Diego. This is an unincorporated community and one of California’s earliest planned communities. Most properties here are between two and four acres. This community is primarily residential.

Rancho Santa Fe was originally named Rancho San Diegueno. Cattle were raised on the property during the 1800s. The land was purchased by the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad in 1906. The railroad planted eucalyptus trees and planned to use the wood from the trees for railroad ties. The wood was unsuitable for railroad ties. The Santa Fe Land Improvement Company, an affiliate of the railroad, decided to develop a community of ranches on the property. The community was planned during the 1920s.

Some of the communities in Rancho Santa Fe are The Covenant, The Crosby, Fairbanks Ranch and Whispering Palms. The Covenant is the original planned community and includes downtown. The Crosby is a gated golf community east of The Covenant. Golf villas and custom homes are some of the Rancho Santé Fe Real Estate options in this community.

Fairbanks Ranch is a gated community. Exclusive estates are set in 75 acres of grounds with a lake, a golf course and a park.

Whispering Palms community is home to the Morgan Run Club & Resort. Morgan Run club members can play golf and swim.
